TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taiwan Railway Administration (TRA) announced plans on Tuesday (Dec. 12) to add 81 train services across its network from Jan. 12 to 15 next year to accommodate travelers returning home for the presidential and legislative elections.
In a press release, the TRA indicated that the additional train services, covering all types of trains, are planned to strengthen the transportation capacity during the election period.
Starting Friday at midnight, presidential and legislative election train tickets will be available for booking online, through the TRA's e-ticketing system, at convenience stores, and via telephone reservation system.
During the transportation enhancement period, the TRA estimates a 5.2 percent average daily increase in capacity, with the west line seeing a 2.4 percent rise, the east line 12.6 percent, and the south-link line 4.7 percent. This will amount to approximately 39,000 extra seats each day compared to regular days.
Compared to the election year of 2020, there will be an 8.89 percent increase in the overall number of seats and a 9.76 percent increase in total seat kilometers in 2024, the TRA affirmed.
