TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Tainan's Garden Night Market achieved a rare feat by becoming the sole five-star night market in southern Taiwan, as announced by the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) on Tuesday (Dec. 12).
Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che praised the city's delectable street food during the award ceremony, emphasizing its role in establishing Tainan as a culinary capital that draws acclaim from both local and international diners.
With the support of the Tainan City Government Economic Development Bureau and the joint efforts of market vendors, Tainan secured an impressive 1465 stars in the MOEA ratings, the highest among Taiwanese cities this year.
The Flowers Night Market in Tainan's north district is one of just two new entries to the exclusive five-star market category across the island.
The Economic Development Bureau noted that this year saw a record number of five-star awards, underscoring the effectiveness of the incentive system for markets and vendors.
As Tainan prepares for its 400th anniversary, the Bureau plans to expand the awards to include four-star markets and notable vendors next year, inviting entrepreneurs to participate in celebrating the city's rich history.
