TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Minister of Economic Affairs, Wang Mei-hua, confirmed on Monday (Dec. 11) that discussions with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) regarding the inauguration date of its Kumamoto fab are forthcoming.
Addressing the Economic Affairs Committee of the Legislative Yuan, Wang noted the rapid progress of TSMC's Kumamoto fab, surpassing global expansion efforts. Ahead of the session, Wang expressed gratitude for Japan's central and local government support in establishing the plant.
Local media reports suggest equipment installation at TSMC's Kumamoto site is in progress, with trial production expected in April 2024. The opening ceremony may be as early as Feb. 24.
Highlighting Japan's role in the semiconductor supply chain, Wang stressed the importance of Taiwan-Japan cooperation, encouraging mutual investment to strengthen bilateral ties.
