TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Tsai Yu-chen, a freshman at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYMCU), has made history by being the first student admitted to the Computer Science program through a special recruitment process that now includes cybersecurity.
Tsai is set to intern with a prominent international AI cybersecurity tech company, focusing on cloud security research.
During his time at Taichung Industrial High School, Tsai took part in the Ministry of Education's cybersecurity talent development program, which provided specialized training during his vocational high school years.
Tsai's passion for technology began in junior high when he self-taught networking skills to set up a Minecraft server. His proficiency in English allowed him to manage the server online and use Google Cloud services to modify Pokémon modules, enabling over 100 people to play simultaneously. This experience led to contract work and income for Tsai.
The recruitment office for vocational and technological colleges and universities stressed the critical connection between cybersecurity and national security.
Technical high schools actively promote relevant courses to enhance students' cybersecurity expertise. After acquiring these skills, students can pursue further education through various university recruitment channels, including specialized college entrance exams and talent selection processes.
