TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taipei City Police Department reported on Thursday (Dec. 7) that there have been no cases linked to the use of illegal ticket-purchasing bots for the ongoing Asian Baseball Championship up until Wednesday, as monitored under the Social Order Maintenance Act.
Concerns have been raised by fans who spotted online "ticket grabbing bots" that even come with instruction manuals, raising suspicions about the instantaneous sellouts of recent baseball game tickets.
As consumers face the daunting challenge of competing against automated systems to buy tickets for events at the Taipei Dome, Yang Liping, a consumer protection officer, has noted a legal gap that currently leaves these bots unpunishable by law.
Baseball game tickets fall outside the category of arts and cultural event tickets, for which there are legal protections against scalping, Yang explained, as authorities can only penalize scalpers based on the Social Order Maintenance Act.
Meanwhile, Taipei city officials urge fans not to buy tickets from scalpers as they continue to seek resolutions for the ticketing issues plaguing popular sporting events.
