TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Economic Affairs revealed on Wednesday (Dec. 6) that 204 local workers employed by Launch Technologies Co. have agreed to the severance package, after the golf manufacturer submitted a layoff plan for 254 employees last month.
Over two months after a significant explosion at its Pingtung factory, the company has also assisted some employees in transferring to other companies, providing them with severance pay that exceeds the requirements set forth by the Labor Standards Act.
The ministry has committed to closely monitoring the labor rights of the affected workers going forward.
A related report indicated that after the incident, the first and second factory buildings suffered severe damage and remained closed.
The factories will resume operations only after third-party verification of the structural safety has been completed. Currently, there is no concrete timetable for resuming work.
The company has established an internal legal team to offer compensation to the impacted employees, which is reportedly more generous than standard provisions.
Additionally, Launch Technologies has promised that salaries will continue to be paid through the end of the year.
The company's Pingtung factory experienced a major explosion on Sept. 22, which resulted in 10 fatalities and left over a hundred injured.
