TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Legislative Yuan on Tuesday (Dec. 5) passed the third reading of a bill to appoint an additional deputy director to the Ministry of Justice's Investigation Bureau (MJIB). The new official will help bolstering the capacity to handle sophisticated surveillance technology and combat cybercrime,
According to a report by the MJIB, the bureau's mission is to safeguard national security and investigate major crimes. It currently operates under the guidance of two deputy directors, each overseeing specific departments.
However, the rapid evolution of crime, characterized by increasingly sophisticated methods, has led to a significant rise in judicial forensic investigations. The existing infrastructure, manned by two deputy directors, has struggled to effectively manage the growing workload associated with these technological matters.
Therefore, the MJIB identified the need for legislative changes to increase the number of deputy director positions from two to three, aiming to enhance the professional handling of surveillance technology.
This expansion is also seen as a strategic move to improve national defense mechanisms by fostering collaborative relationships with key national infrastructure sectors for information security and intelligence sharing.
