TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei City Mayor Chiang Wan-an announced on Monday (Dec. 4) efforts to negotiate with the Farglory Group to allow 20,000 spectators to attend the championship match of the 2023 Asian Baseball Championship.

The widely anticipated sporting event kicked off a day earlier, with tickets for the inaugural match at the Taipei Dome being snapped up immediately upon release, indicating heightened enthusiasm for the sport.

An impressive crowd of approximately 17,000 fans attended the first match, filling the stands with energy and support for their teams.

Indicating fans' enthusiasm, Chiang emphasized the need to open more seats for the championship match during a meeting at the Taipei City Council on Monday, adding that he has instructed the Department of Sports to discuss the matter with the Farglory Group.

Chiang expressed his belief that Taipei should gradually increase the audience capacity for major events to meet the public's demand and expectations.

On the question of whether the capacity of the Dome could be expanded to 40,000 seats for the scheduled exchange games with the Yomiuri Giants, Chiang stated his respect for the professional assessment of the Chinese Taipei Baseball Association (CTBA) and the Farglory group.

He added that the city government is willing to provide assistance and aims to complete a full-capacity test within the year.
