Hou’s campaign team hits back at Ko over joint ticket polling (TVBS News)

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuomintang (KMT) presidential candidate Hou Yu-ih's campaign office accused Taiwan People's Party (TPP) candidate Ko Wen-je on Saturday (Dec. 2) of being mired in self-contradiction over the continuing dispute about polling during the attempted formation of the KMT-TPP joint ticket.

Ko appeared to be caught up in the poll controversy from the discussions around the union of the two parties when he spoke with TVBS in an exclusive interview two days ago.

He argued, "If the statistics can't tell the difference between a Ko-Hou or Hou-Ko ticket, then I'll let you have it. But even if I give up a six-point lead, Hou still wouldn't win."

Ko also claimed dissatisfaction with the KMT's internal "palace and backroom politics," insisting that over 60 percent of Taiwanese people desire a change in governance and that the culture of the TPP does not match such politics.

Chien Chen-yu, the spokesperson of Hou's campaign office, refuted Ko's narrative by pointing out that if polling numbers were within the margin of error, scientifically, both candidates are considered on equal footing.

Chien further explained that Ko himself understood very well that Hou had made concessions, which is why he agreed to accept Hou's leading position in the ticket. He accused Ko of refusing to face scientific facts and truth and remaining stuck in his contradictions, unable to turn the page.
