TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Chien Tu Banqiao Shuangshi Branch announced on Sunday (Nov. 26) that it would cease operations for two days to conduct comprehensive cleaning and disinfection after a rat startled a dining customer earlier in the day.
An online user recounted their "giant rat" encounter at the Chien Tu hotpot restaurant, a prominent hotpot chain in Taiwan, causing other diners to quickly leave the premises. Reportedly, the staff promptly handled the rodent, removing it from the establishment.
Following the incident, the individual shared the story in the Banqiao community Facebook group, "I am Banqiao Resident," mentioning that some patrons continued dining, apparently unaware, raising concerns about the restaurant's cleanliness.
In response to the incident, Chien Tu emphasized their commitment to maintaining a sanitary dining environment, a standard they claim to have upheld during their 27 years of operation.
The restaurant speculates that the unexpected visitor may have entered due to recent fumigation activities around the building's first-floor perimeter.
