TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Lai Ching-te and Hsiao Bi-khim, registered for the 2024 election on Tuesday (Nov. 21) at the Central Election Commission (CEC).
Hsiao, just back from the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in San Francisco, spoke before registration, highlighting her sleep-deprived state with less than 5 hours of rest before today's event.
Lai addressed their significance, stating, "The two of us also represent the trust in Taiwan toward its direction. Geopolitical changes, Taiwan's national security, and peace in the Indo-Pacific region are the focus of the international community."
Lai emphasized, "The whole world is watching this election" with solemnity.
As the first pair to register, Lai and Hsiao wore badges featuring cartoon depictions of a cat and a dog, respectively, bearing the phrase "pick the right people, follow the right path."
During their registration, Lai and Hsiao not only donned symbolic badges symbolizing dog and cat lovers but also raised the slogan 'pick the right people, follow the right path,' demonstrating their commitment to jointly forging a robust future for Taiwan through mutual complementarity.
