TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A five-day memorial service is set to commence on Wednesday (Nov. 22) in the Yancheng district of Kaohsiung to honor the life and legacy of Chimei Corporation founder Shi Wen-long, who passed away last Saturday at the age of 96.
Shi, renowned as one of Taiwan's most influential figures, established Chimei Corporation, globally recognized as the leading manufacturer of ABS resins — a type of durable, high-performance plastic.
Following the announcement of Shi's passing, many paid tribute to him at the Chimei Museum during the weekend, acknowledging his significant achievements and contributions. The museum, founded in 1992, is home to over 4,000 art pieces, including the world's largest violin collection, various paintings, and ancient sculptures.
In memory of Shi, a memorial wall was erected in the museum's reception area on Monday. This tribute allows visitors to leave condolence messages and reflect on Shi's remarkable achievements and contributions. Listed by Forbes as one of the world's wealthiest individuals, Shi was celebrated as a pioneering entrepreneur and an avid violinist throughout his life.
Shi's final wish was to be remembered with music, not a funeral. In accordance with his wishes, the museum will be closed for the first two days of December to host a private concert organized by his family, fulfilling Shi's final request.
