TAIPEI (TVBS News) — As Taiwan and Japan's industry connections continue to grow, with Taiwanese domestic factories seeking new business opportunities abroad, the Asia Silicon Valley Development Agency (ASVDA) is planning to host discussions on topics such as electric vehicles (EVs), smart cabins, AI chips, and the challenges and opportunities arising from Taiwan-Japan industry ties.
This initiative aligns with Gartner, a U.S.-based technological research firm's prediction of a substantial increase in global EV shipments. Gartner's findings suggest that shipments of pure electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles are expected to reach 1.5 million, marking a nearly 50 percent increase from the previous year's sales.
Gartner also forecasts a total of 15.42 million EVs, including cars, buses, freight trains, and heavy-duty trucks, to be shipped in 2023, with the number projected to rise to 18.45 million by 2024.
According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), the expansion of electric vehicles will revolutionize energy usage and distribution in major industries. The World Energy Outlook 2023 report by the IEA projects a tenfold increase in the number of vehicles on roads globally by 2030, and suggests that solar energy generation could surpass the entire current output of the U.S. energy system.
The report also highlights a significant shift in the global energy mix, with sustainable energy expected to account for 30 to almost 50 percent of global usage.
Additionally, the IEA foresees significant advancements in offshore wind power, with investments in this sector projected to triple those in new fossil fuel power plants, indicating a major global transition to green energy.
