TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Amid ongoing negotiations for a "blue-white party alliance" ahead of the 2024 presidential election, Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen on Sunday (Nov. 12) emphasized the importance of achieving a win-win situation through mutual cooperation between the party candidates.
In her closing remarks at the two-day Taichung City Youth Model United Nations (TCYMUN), Mayor Lu humorously referenced the political scenario, suggesting that if Kuomintang (KMT) candidate Hou Yu-ih and Taiwan People's Party (TPP) candidate Ko Wen-je had participated in model UN programs, the current alliance negotiations might have progressed more smoothly.
Her comments, which drew laughter from the students, further highlighted the need for Hou and Ko's campaign teams to empathize with each other while maintaining their vision. Mayor Lu stressed the importance of the model UN in developing such negotiation skills and the ability to identify collaborative opportunities.
"The highest level of negotiation is achieving mutual benefit," Mayor Lu stated, underscoring that the city's third-year model UN training camp aims to provide students with valuable opportunities to enhance their negotiation skills and understand the complexities of collaboration.
The 2023 TCYMUN, hosted at Tunghai University, attracted 300 students from 38 high schools across the country, with 84% of the participants hailing from schools in Taichung City. The event focused on educating students about pressing international and domestic issues.
