TAIPEI (TVBS News) — U.S. Ambassador Matt Murray, senior official for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), discussed his aspirations for this year's summit in the latest episode of TVBS Meeting Room released on Saturday (Nov. 11). Hosted in San Francisco, the event will notably feature a highly-anticipated summit between Xi Jinping and Joe Biden.
Speaking with TVBS commentator Wenchi Yu, Murray emphasized the United States' commitment to collaborating with other economies during its APEC host year. He highlighted the focus on addressing various regional challenges. "We aim to promote sustainable and inclusive growth, foster a healthier digital economy, and enhance resilience and inclusion across the region," Murray explained.
Given that APEC's 21 member economies account for half of the global trade and approximately 60% of the global GDP, Murray stressed the importance of collective effort in tackling these challenges. He underscored the significance of members working together to develop collective solutions that benefit the entire region.
The United States is hosting the 2023 APEC Economic Leaders' Week, chaired by President Joe Biden in San Francisco. The week-long event will culminate with the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting on Nov. 16-17, during which Asia-Pacific leaders will establish regional goals and a strategic agenda for the upcoming year under the guidance of President Biden.
