TAIPEI (TVBS News) — On Saturday (Nov. 4), Taipei Metro recorded its 13 billionth passenger, marking a major milestone for the transportation network.
The landmark rider embarked from the Zhongxiao Fuxing station on the Bannan Line at 7:50 a.m. and alighted at Xindian station on the Songshan-Xindian Line.
In celebration, Taipei Metro gifted annual metro passes to the lucky recipient as well as the five commuters preceding and the five commuters following them.
The 13 billionth passenger also received a voucher for a presidential suite at a vacation resort worth NT$88,000 in addition to free metro travel for one year.
The method used to track ridership involves counting the entrance times of ticket cards and selecting the fortunate winner from registered metro card members' data.
The metro authority encouraged passengers to stay updated with information by following the official Taipei Metro fan page, known as "Fun with the Metro."
Fans of the Taipei Metro and "Fun with the Metro" could participate in a predictive activity on Facebook for a chance to win a voucher for a presidential suite at the Crystal Resort in Sun Moon Lake or a metro card.
In recent years, Taipei Metro has been committed to promoting Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) concepts. The transportation network aims to convey the ideals of sustainable development and zero emissions to its riders as part of its ongoing commitment to the city's green transformation.
