TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Dimitri Bruyas, the head of TVBS' English department, praised the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in the media industry during a panel discussion at CTeC Asia on Saturday (Oct. 21).
While acknowledging AI's usefulness in streamlining tasks such as video editing and content formatting, Bruyas cautioned against relying solely on AI for journalistic functions.
"The AI does not have a perception of time; it doesn't understand what is true and what is not," Bruyas explained. "Training a reporter takes years.
Although AI can aid with efficiency, tasks like fact-checking and content selection should remain the domain of human journalists."
This may necessitate changes in business models, such as the introduction of paywalls.
"The game is changing, but the game is still on," said Bruyas.
He suggested that the growing use of AI-assisted tools could enable media outlets to find their unique voice without relying solely on free social media platforms.
