TAIPEI  (TVBS News) — Ansgar Graw, director of Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Media Programme Asia, expressed his optimism on Saturday (Oct. 21) about the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in journalism, arguing that its benefits outweigh the drawbacks.

Speaking during the welcoming remarks at the CTeC Asia event, the German journalist highlighted that AI could be a useful tool for quickly disseminating numerical information like sports scores or local election results.

"I think the most common misconception is to think AI will destroy a lot of jobs and will endanger journalism," Graw said.

He believes that AI can occasionally offer new perspectives on topics and unearth information that journalists might otherwise overlook, thereby aiding in the preparation of articles.

Graw emphasized the irreplaceable role of human journalists, citing their capacity for empathy and intuition. "Those emotions combined with experience and journalistic skills can assist in the production of great stories," he said.

The director acknowledged that both journalists and readers are still adapting to the integration of AI in media, but stressed the importance of transparency.

"We should always tell our readers that AI has contributed to this article. I think, in a very short period of time, readers will learn there's no reason to distrust AI," he concluded.

He sees this as the beginning of a long journey, anticipating that more people will recognize the value and efficiency that AI can bring to journalism in the long term.
