TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Business tycoon and presidential hopeful Terry Gou remained silent on Wednesday (Sept. 13) when asked by the media regarding speculation about his choice for running mate in the upcoming 2024 presidential election. However, he promised to make the announcement sometime on Sept. 13 or Sept. 14.
Gou has only revealed that his vice president selection will be a woman.
The registration for independent candidates will be open tomorrow, the Central Election Commission (CEC) stated.
Rumors have been swirling about the possibilities, including former vice chairperson of the Financial Supervisory Commission, Lee Chi-chu, and Chen Chang-fen, a professor at the Department of Finance, National Taiwan University. Chen, however, has personally denied the rumors.
The selection of Gou's running mate has drawn significant attention in Taiwan. The presidential hopeful visited Nanjichang Night Market on Tuesday evening, interacting with many young individuals. There, he declined to confirm any names mentioned by the media.
His choice and strong business background could significantly impact the political climate leading up to the registration for candidacy starting Sept. 13 and lasting until Sept. 17.
