TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Cheng Li-chun, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate Lai Ching-te's campaign convener and chairperson of the Foundation for Future Generations, stated on Wednesday (Sept. 6) that she has no intention to run for the election.
Amid speculation about her possibly serving as deputy to Lai, Cheng only expressed wishes to contribute through the role of the private think tank.
Cheng attended Lai's inaugural "National Project of Hope" event earlier that day, clarifying, "I have always kept a distance from elections and have repeatedly told everyone that I have no plans to run."
" I only aim to fulfill my role at the think tank," she told reporters during an interview after the event ended.
Cheng also stated her current aspiration is to combine her past experiences "inside and outside of the (political) system" and work with experts from diverse professions to understand the nation's ideal future better.
