KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — Typhoon Haikui has wreaked havoc through Kaohsiung since Sunday (Sept. 3), lashing the city with violent winds and heavy rain resulting in widespread power outages.

Statistics from Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) revealed that over 60,000 homes were left without electricity on Sunday, with approximately 35,548 households still awaiting power restoration as of 8 a.m. Monday.

Typhoon-induced issues, including dislodged high-voltage transmission lines, fallen trees and collapsed billboards crushing power lines, play a significant role in the power outage.

Meinong, Neimen, Dashe, Yanchao and Tianliao districts were among those severely affected, with major power outages in these areas caused predominantly by mountain trees crushing power lines.

As the restoration mission advances, Taipower has activated a restoration crew comprising 146 engineers, 52 subcontractors, 47 engineering vehicles, 25 mobile cranes, 30 aerial work platforms, 21 generators, 38 pumps and an excavator.

By 8 a.m. Monday morning, electricity has been restored to over 18,000 homes.

At present, approximately 6,000 households are still without power. Taipower intends to restore power to all households by the end of the day.
