TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei City Mayor Chiang Wan-an headed to Shanghai on Tuesday morning (Aug. 29) for the Taipei-Shanghai Twin City Forum.
At Taipei Songshan Airport, he delivered a brief speech highlighting his responsibility as a mayor to strive for prosperity opportunities for his city and country, and the importance of maintaining dialogue between the Taiwan Strait to maintain cross-strait stability.
"The complexity of cross-strait relations can never be simplified in a few words," Chiang said. "Rather, it is necessary to have a mechanism for continuous and sincere dialogues to stabilize cross-strait interactions amidst the myriad of issues."
Chiang emphasized that the delegation will follow the framework of the twin-city forum and regulations, as demonstrated by the two former Taipei mayors, while “[creating] opportunities through actions.”
"Our commitment to democracy, peace, and prosperity remains unchanged,” he said.
Chiang will attend all three days of the forum as well as inspect Shanghai's night economy and environmental protection facilities and interact with Taiwanese businessmen. He will return to Taipei on Aug. 31.
