TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Tsai Ing-wen and Premier Chen Chien-jen encouraged large enterprises business leaders to be the bellwether to embrace low-carbon supply chains in the 30th Asia Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce board meeting on Thursday (July 20).
Reiterating her policy goals, President Tsai emphasized the fruitful results of the government thus far, saying, "Earlier this year, we enacted the Climate Change Response Act and released "Taiwan's Pathway to Net-Zero Emissions in 2050" in response to the worldwide net-zero movement."
Furthermore, President Tsai called for business leaders of all sizes to join the government's efforts in combating climate change, "We also encouraged large enterprises to lead the way in building low-carbon emission supply chains to alleviate the impact of small and medium-sized businesses along the way," she added.
In Premier Chen's remarks, by gathering the power of nine ministries, he noted that NT$74.3 billion will be invested in the next four years to implement net-zero transformation in each field with the help of technology.
"I also invited the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Overseas Community Affairs Council to guide Taiwanese companies based overseas to meet the demand for net zero," Chen noted, "net-zero transition is not only about the sustainable development of the Earth but also an opportunity for industrial transformation and upgrading."
