TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taiwanese Public Opinion Foundation unveiled its latest poll results on Tuesday (Feb. 21), shedding light on the presidential hopefuls for the 2024 election.
As the election looms, both the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and the Taiwan People's Party (TPP) have reportedly settled on their candidates, with Lai Ching-te poised to represent the former and Ko Wen-je to represent the latter.
On the other hand, the Kuomintang (KMT) party is still mulling over its potential nominees, with Eric Chu, Terry Guo — founder of Foxconn, and Hou You-yi, the mayor of New Taipei City, all showing good levels of support.
Based on the poll, Hou is currently the most favored candidate, garnering 32.4% of respondents support, followed by Lai with 27.7%. Meanwhile, Ko appears to trail behind in popularity (19.5%) when pitted against the other two potential contenders.
In the eventuality of a Hou and Lai contest, Hou will likely lead in the polls.
My Formosa has released another poll indicating that in a hypothetical three-way race, Lai would take the lead with a slight advantage, followed closely by Hou. However, if Ko were to withdraw from the race, Hou would emerge as the frontrunner.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Hou said he wants to prioritize the nation's well-being and people above political parties and personal interests. He emphasized that individuals must unite and set aside differences based on ethnicity and political affiliation to strengthen Taiwan.
