TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Minister of National Defense Chiu Kuo-cheng announced on Wednesday (Dec. 28) plans to recall female military reservists next year.
His statement came after President Tsai Ing-wen's earlier announcement that Taiwan is set to resume one-year military service starting in 2024.
Chiu remarked that many female officers had expressed willingness before, but due to gaps in equipment and facilities, they weren't able to be recalled.
However, as facilities have since been upgraded, Taiwan plans to recall 10 or more female officers in 2023.
The minister explained that the numbers will likely increase after things run more smoothly.
