TAIPEI (TVBS NEWS) The Mainland Affairs Council announced on Thursday (Nov. 3) that tourists from Hong Kong and Macao will be able to visit Taiwan via tour groups starting on Nov. 7. Travelers can apply for a tourist visa through Tourism Bureau-approved travel agencies. Each group must consist of 5 to 40 people, and their stay cannot exceed 15 days.

Temmy, a Hong Konger who recently got married and lives in Taiwan, is looking forward to inviting her friends and family in Hong Kong to Taiwan to attend the wedding banquet that she has had to postpone due to the pandemic. However, many are still hoping for individual travel to Taiwan to be open soon, so they won't have to travel in groups.

"I think they prefer traveling solo instead of in groups. There will be a lower willingness to travel to Taiwan if they have to travel in a group. As countries continue to reopen their borders, I hope (solo travel will be available) by the end of the year, before the Chinese New Year," said Temmy

Mike, also a Hong Konger residing in Taiwan said, "if it has to be with a group, I think the public will wait until it is fully open, then more will want to come to Taiwan."

Taiwan's borders will reopen not only for travelers from Hong Kong and Macau, but also for research students coming from the mainland, and for Hong Kong and Macau citizens who are entering Taiwan for employment.
