TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A U.S. multinational cosmetics company illuminated Taipei 101 in pink on Thursday (Oct. 17) as part of the "Breast Cancer Campaign" (粉紅絲帶乳癌防治宣導), paying tribute to those affected by breast cancer.
Estée Lauder Companies chose Taipei's iconic skyscraper to reflect its global commitment to ending breast cancer, according to Jean-Alexandre Havard, CEO of Estée Lauder Companies Taiwan.
The Health Promotion Administration (國健署) reported in 2018 that breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in Taiwan, with one diagnosis every 37 minutes. Early detection and treatment increase the five-year survival rate to over 90%.
Since 1997, Estée Lauder Companies has spearheaded the Pink Ribbon Campaign in Taiwan, raising more than NT$88 million for research, education, and medical services.
The company works with the Taiwan Clinical Oncology Research Foundation (台灣臨床癌症研究發展基金會) to raise awareness about breast cancer. Together, they organize screenings and lectures and publish educational materials, all in a bid to boost awareness and support for breast cancer prevention.
