TAIPEI (TVBS News) — NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang revealed Wednesday (June 6) that an AI supercomputer will likely be built in the southern city of Kaohsiung, while the R&D site will be in the Taipei area.

Jensen made the comment while visiting Barry Lam, the founder and chairman of Quanta Computer, who hosted a dinner for the Quanta and NVIDIA teams that evening to celebrate their partnership. Jensen called Lam “my hero,” Lam referred to Huang as “our king,” highlighting their strong friendship.

Jensen also praised Quanta as a “world-leading technology provider of data centers and systems for servers.” He stated that the dinner was not about business but a celebration of the team members' hard work on Blackwell. “We’ve been working together for over 15 years, and we’re building a new generation of Blackwell-based AI supercomputers for AI factories,” he said.

When asked about the location of NVIDIA's operations in Taiwan, Jensen said they have yet to decide. However, he revealed that the supercomputer will likely be in Kaohsiung and that they will expand there. “Our R&D site will probably be close to Taipei because we already have hundreds of people here, and we would like to hire another thousand chip designers, system engineers, software engineers, and AI researchers,” he said.

Quanta prepared a human-sized balloon decorated to look like the NVIDIA top executive. Jensen was surprised and excited, taking pictures with the balloon and signing his autograph.
