TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) pledged full government support for the Coast Guard Administration during an event on Monday (June 3), emphasizing the agency's critical national mission.

Cho stated that the government is committed to empowering the Coast Guard to enforce the law rigorously, including arresting, detaining, fining, and expelling violators as necessary.

Government Backing with Significant Investment
The Premier announced a substantial investment of over NT$90 million to purchase 260 patrol and surveillance vehicles to boost the morale of the Coast Guard personnel. This move underscores the government's dedication to enhancing Taiwan's maritime security and law enforcement capabilities.

Impressive Track Record

Ocean Affairs Council Minister Kuan Bi-ling (管碧玲) highlighted the Coast Guard's achievements in the past two years, including the seizure of approximately 7,800 kilograms of narcotics and around 630,000 kilograms of illegal agricultural and livestock products.

Furthermore, Kuan noted that over 1,400 Chinese fishing vessels that had crossed into Taiwan's waters were driven away, showcasing the Coast Guard's effectiveness in safeguarding national security and economic interests.

Kuan also pointed out that the demand for goods typically increases on the eve of the Dragon Boat Festival, leading to a rise in smuggling and illegal activities. This period requires heightened vigilance and enforcement efforts from the Coast Guard.

Premier Cho reiterated the government's unwavering support for the Coast Guard, emphasizing its role in national security, public safety, and the frontline defense against drug trafficking and food safety threats. The government's commitment to strengthening the Coast Guard's capabilities reflects its broader strategy to ensure Taiwan's security and prosperity.
