TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Quanta Computer Chairman Barry Lam (林百里) has been named Taiwan's wealthiest individual for the first time, according to the latest Forbes Taiwan's Richest 2024 list. Lam's net worth surged to US$11.7 billion, marking the highest increase among all Taiwanese tycoons.
Forbes reported that Taiwan's economy, after a modest growth of 1.3% last year, saw a significant boost in the first quarter of this year with a 6.56% growth, the fastest in nearly three years. This economic upturn propelled Taiwan's 50 wealthiest assets to $174 billion.
Tech and Innovation Drive Wealth
Quanta Computer, under Lam's leadership, manufactures laptops and AI servers for tech giants such as Apple and Google. The company's net profit soared by over a third to $12 billion last year, contributing significantly to Lam's wealth. Additionally, Quanta's Vice Chairman and President, C.C. Leung (梁次震), debuted on the list with a fortune of $1.45 billion, ranking 42nd.
The Forbes list revealed that 29 tycoons saw their wealth increase, leading to notable shifts in the rankings. This year's economic growth and the success of tech companies like Quanta Computer highlight Taiwan's business landscape's dynamic nature and global impact.
