TAIPEI (TVBS News) — To boost its economy, Thailand's cabinet approved new visa measures on Tuesday (May 28). Starting in June, travelers from 93 countries and regions, including Taiwan, will be able to enter Thailand without a visa for up to 60 days.

This decision doubles the previous stay limit of 30 days and is part of Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin's strategy to prioritize economic growth, with tourism being a key driver and employment source.

Expanding Opportunities
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, who has made stimulating economic growth a top priority since taking office, the tourism sector is expected to play a pivotal role.

The new visa measures also extend the stay period for students and foreign workers and offer improved conditions for retirees. A notable inclusion is the provision for "digital nomads," remote workers who will now benefit from a visa validity extended from 60 days to five years, with each entry allowing a stay of up to 180 days.

A Boost for Tourism
The Thai government anticipates these changes will welcome 40 million foreign visitors this year, aiming to generate approximately US$95.7 billion in tourism revenue.

This ambitious target reflects Thailand's commitment to revitalizing its tourism industry, a crucial economic sector that provides significant employment opportunities across the country.

As travelers from Taiwan and other nations prepare to take advantage of these relaxed visa requirements, Thailand's tourism sector is poised for a significant influx, promising a substantial boost to the local economy.
