KYMCO launches new charge-and-swap electric motorcycles

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The KYMCO Group on Wednesday (May 15) launched the iONEX UNO, a new electric motorcycle equipped with a state-of-the-art Battery Management Unit (BMU), marking a significant advance in Taiwan's growing electric vehicle (EV) sector. This innovative model is designed to simplify home recharging and offers a hybrid system for battery swapping, appealing to diverse global markets.

Innovative Hybrid System

Speaking to the media, KYMCO Group Chairman Allen Ko elaborated on the dual approach of the motorcycle's functionality, stating, "The BMU gives us a whole package of smart features for the vehicles. Another very key advantage of BMU is that with the BMY you can both charge the vehicle and swap the battery." This flexibility allows riders to charge at home or on the go, enhancing convenience for users everywhere.

In discussing the strategic development of the motorcycle, Ko said, "We are trying to expand our position in the world market for electric motorcycles. It's just that in Taiwan, and in the rest of the world, different markets have different needs. So that's why we come up with this charging and swapping combined hybrid system."

Market Expansion and Adaptability

Ko also highlighted the unique position of another new model in Taiwan — the Cool ONE. "It is a unique electric motorcycle in Taiwan. It's lightweight, has a low seat height, and can be battery-switched." This design is likely to cater well to the Taiwanese market, known for its dense urban environments and a growing number of EV users.

Looking forward, Ko is optimistic about the impact of their new models on the company's market share, "We are confident that these two models will help us improve and increase our market share significantly in the rest of the year."
