NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — As Taiwan gears up for the May 20 presidential inauguration, the Guandu Area Command's artillery battalion held a heat-endurance training and 21-gun salute rehearsal on Wednesday (May 8). The battalion, part of the Army 226 Division, will perform the military salute by firing 21 rounds during the ceremony.

Established in 1961, the battalion has 111 personnel and is equipped with eight M101A1 105mm howitzers. Beyond ceremonial duties, these soldiers are also trained field artillerymen, skilled in various artillery operations. The battalion's dual role underscores its importance in both national celebrations and combat readiness.

The upcoming inauguration will feature the battalion executing the highest military salute of 21 rounds, synchronized with the flag-hoisting music and the "President's Salute Song" by the Ministry of National Defense's military band. This event will showcase their preparedness to perform under challenging conditions, including the summer heat.
