TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Hualien County in eastern Taiwan was shaken by numerous earthquakes between Monday, April 22, and Tuesday, April 23, with magnitudes reaching 6 and above.

As the strong aftershocks rocked the region, the Hualien County government suspended classes and work for Tuesday. The aftershocks were felt nationwide and caused two more buildings in the eastern rural area to tilt.

Both buildings were vacant, marked 'code red' damaged following the April 3 earthquake. Geologists warn that the aftershocks will likely continue and urged the public to brace for more seismic activity in the near future.

Former Director of the Central Weather Administration’s Seismological Center, Kuo Kai-wen, will explain the seismic phenomenon and patterns detected from these tremors at a press conference later today.

Since the April 3 earthquake, Taiwan has experienced more than 1,000 aftershocks.
