TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Tsai Ing-wen met with a bipartisan delegation led by Jack Bergman, Chairman of the Intelligence and Special Operations Subcommittee, at the Presidential Office on Thursday (March 28), aiming to resist China's regional aggression jointly.
The delegation also included Representatives Don Norcross and Jimmy Panetta. Tsai thanked the visitors for demonstrating bipartisan U.S. support for Taiwan and noted their long-term focus on Taiwan Strait issues, the active promotion of Taiwan-U.S. exchanges, and cooperation in the U.S. Congress.
Tsai emphasized Taiwan's ongoing commitment to self-defense, including the development of domestically produced aircraft and submarines, and thanked the U.S. government and Congress for assisting Taiwan in strengthening its self-defense capabilities through the FY2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) at the end of 2023.
Tsai also highlighted the active promotion of economic and trade exchanges between Taiwan and the U.S. in recent years. She expressed hope that the visitors would continue to exert influence to help resolve the issue of double taxation as soon as possible, promoting closer bilateral investment and industrial cooperation.
Bergman stated that Taiwan is a key partner of the U.S. in the Indo-Pacific region, with many security and economic collaborations. He pledged to continue persuading other members of Congress of the strategic importance of the Taiwan-U.S. relationship for the region's future.
