TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an on Wednesday (March 27) ordered all branches of Polam Kopitiam to cease operations following multiple cases of food poisoning allegedly linked to the restaurant chain sparking public concern.

A suspected case occurred at the Polam Kopitiam in the Hsinyi District of Taipei. A 40-year-old man surnamed Lu from the Sanchong District of New Taipei City dined at the "Polam Kopitiam Hsinyi A13" on March 22. After consuming a vegetarian stir-fried rice noodle dish, he fell ill and was hospitalized. Tragically, he passed away two days later.

The prosecutor's office has temporarily stored the body for further examination due to the escalating controversy. A second autopsy is scheduled for March 28 to determine the exact cause of Lu's death.

Taipei Department of Health Commissioner Chen Yen-yuan stated that as of 9:45 a.m., the health department had received seven hospital reports and one report from the 1999 emergency hotline.
