TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi on Thursday (March 7) stated during a press conference on the sidelines of the second session of the 14th National People's Congress that the world will adhere to the One China policy.

He warned Taiwan against seeking independence, stating that history would settle it.

As reported by the Xinhua News Agency, when asked about cross-strait relations post Taiwan's election, Wang Yi dismissed it as merely "a local Chinese election." He emphasized that the election could not change the fact that Taiwan is part of China and that, inevitably, it will return to the motherland.

Wang stated that over 180 countries and international organizations reaffirmed their support for the One-China principle following Taiwan's election, providing clear evidence that "the One-China principle is a consensus in the international community."

Wang stressed that any ongoing support for Taiwan's independence amounts to a "challenge to China's sovereignty." If any nation maintains official relations with Taiwan, that equates to "interfering in China's domestic affairs."

He reiterated that China's policy towards Taiwan is geared towards peaceful unification pursued with utmost sincerity. Still, the bottom line is that Taiwan's secession from the mainland will never be allowed.

Wang encouraged all Chinese descendants to uphold national justice, jointly opposing Taiwan's independence and supporting peaceful reunification.
