TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The 32nd Taipei International Book Exhibition (TiBE) concluded on Sunday (Feb. 25), spotlighting discussions on U.S.-China-Taiwan relations and evolving dynamics in the Taiwan Strait as key themes at the event.
Among the notable works presented was "A Sacred Oath: Memoirs of a Secretary of Defense During Extraordinary Times" by Former Defense Secretary Mark Esper from the Trump administration, shedding light on lesser-known aspects of Trump's tenure.
Esper, who visited Taiwan last August, underscored the imperative for Taiwan to bolster its defense capabilities in response to China's escalating aggressions.
Albert Chiu, a professor from Tunghai University's Department of Political Science, highlighted Esper's projection that China could surpass U.S. military strength by 2049, potentially intensifying U.S.-China competition, with Taiwan as a pivotal factor.
Another significant publication, "U.S.-Taiwan Relations: Will China's challenge lead to a crisis?" co-authored by American scholars Bonnie Glaser, Richard Bush, and Ryan Hass, examined seven potential developments in the U.S.-China-Taiwan trilateral relations over the next decade. Huang Kwei-bo, a professor at National Chengchi University's Department of Diplomacy, emphasized the implications of various scenarios on U.S. national interests and peace in the Taiwan Strait.
At the exhibition, Dimitri Bruyas, TVBS English News Team Lead, led a session discussing book recommendations, including "Cuba" and "In the Lion's Den: Israel and the World," with Showwe's Editor-in-Chief Yin Huai-chun.
This year's event attracted 509 publishers from 34 countries, hosting 1,910 roundtable meetings, triple the number from the previous year.
