Taiwan signs MOU with India to employ migrant workers (TVBS News)

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — An official from Taiwan's Executive Yuan confirmed on Friday (Feb. 16) that a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed with India to facilitate the hiring of Indian migrant workers.

According to the MOU, Taiwan will determine the sectors and numbers for the employment of Indian workers, while India will recruit and train migrant workers, following the regulations of both countries.

The Taiwanese official further denied false online rumors claiming the plan will introduce 100,000 Indian workers.

The signing took place online between the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India and the India-Taipei Association earlier today.

Following the MOU's signing, Taiwan's Ministry of Labor will forward it to the Legislative Yuan for record, before planning meetings with their Indian counterparts to discuss further details.

After all preparations are finished according to the law, India shall be proclaimed as a new source of migrant labor, and employers can freely choose to hire based on individual demand.

As Taiwan faces an aging population, decreased birth rate, and labor shortages, the government aims to develop new sources of migrant labor to meet increasing industrial and social labor demands.
