TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei is set to delight Lunar New Year visitors with unique cable car decorations on the Maokong Gondola. The gondola cars, in collaboration with Animal Rescue Team Taiwan and Muaji Cat, now feature patterns showcasing sloths, cats, and young cows, promoting animal protection and environmental conservation.
Metro Taipei has announced that the local God of Wealth will be present at the cable car stations from Feb. 10 to Feb. 12, distributing limited treats and cookies between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., wishing everyone a prosperous new year.
Passengers boarding the gondola cable cars will be greeted with cartoon patterns painted on the seats and seatbacks, enhancing the scenic experience.
Chang Ming-sung, a tea-house owner near MaoKung station, noted, "Maokong Gondola's resurgence in visitor numbers post-pandemic is evident. We’ve collaborated with the gondola as part of the ‘Three Cats 2.0’ (三貓2.0) project.”
In contrast, Taipei Zoo, located nearby, plans to potentially raise ticket prices starting in April. General admission might increase from NT$60 to NT$100, with preferential tickets potentially rising from NT$30 to NT$50. Taipei residents' tickets will remain at NT$60, and group tickets will continue to enjoy a 30% discount.
During the opening event on Feb. 2, Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an expressed his excitement for the upcoming festivities. He revealed plans to enjoy the decorated gondola with his family during the Lunar New Year holiday and encouraged others to do the same.
