Taoyuan Pilots Union announces potential strike dates (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taoyuan Union of Pilots (TUP) announced plans on Thursday (Jan. 25) for two strikes, scheduled from Feb. 7 to Feb. 18 and March 30 to April 7, which could disrupt travel during the upcoming Lunar New Year holidays and Tomb-Sweeping Day.
The union disclosed that pilots at EVA Air have been granted the right to strike following unresolved disputes with the airline company. TUP has opted for strike action against EVA Air, Taiwan's second-largest airline, due to the lack of response to their demands.
The strikes are set to proceed unless an agreement is reached through negotiation. The union emphasized its commitment to substantial negotiations with EVA Air and its intention to explore the possibility of reaching a resolution.
TUP stated that it will notify its members 24 hours in advance via the official union website before the strike begins. Additionally, the union plans to conduct at least two to three "strike drills" for its EVA Air division members to ensure they can respond promptly to a strike call.
Originally, a negotiation meeting was planned for next Wednesday (Jan. 31). However, the union has indicated that it will only attend the meeting if EVA Air presents clear counterproposals to the union's demands by Tuesday (Jan. 30).
