Cold front in Taiwan linked to fatal cardiac arrests (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A cold front ravaging Taiwan has been linked to five Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA) events in the Keelung region between Monday (Jan. 22) and Tuesday (Jan. 23), all of which proved fatal, the local fire department reported.
Victims' ages ranged from 52 to 97.
Data from the Keelung City Fire Department on these two days showed a total of five emergency rescue cases of OHCA, including two males and three females.
However, it's yet to be determined whether the cause of the emergencies was related to the cold weather, the fire department added.
On Tuesday morning, temperatures in most areas dropped to between 6 to 8 degrees Celsius. The fire department urged the public to prioritize warmth and guard against risks posed by the low temperatures.
According to the Central Weather Administration (CWA), early morning conditions were just 6 to 8 degrees in areas north of central Taiwan and in Yilan. In southern Taiwan and Hualien-Taitung regions, temperatures ranged from 9 to 12 degrees.
Due to moisture from southern China, the whole island could experience regional short-term rain, with conditions persisting and covering larger swathes in the northern and northeastern regions.
The CWA has issued a special heavy rainfall report for Keelung, the northern coast, and the mountainous area of Taipei city, with potential heavy rains also affecting New Taipei, Taipei and Yi-lan.
