TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan is bracing for a cold wave forecasted to hit Monday (Jan. 22) evening with temperatures set to plummet to 7 degrees Celsius along the coast, according to meteorological expert Daniel Wu.

Wu stated that each region's temperatures on Monday would fluctuate: northern areas will shift from 14 to 7 degrees, central areas between 9 and 21 degrees, southern regions from 10 to 24 degrees, and eastern zones from 9 to 21 degrees.

From Monday afternoon to Tuesday, snow lines in northern Taiwan will gradually descend to approximately 1,000 meters, while central Taiwan will see snow lines at roughly 2,000 meters. High-altitude areas, such as Lala Mountain and Mount Hehuan, have a high probability of snowfall. Qixing Mountain and Datun Mountain - standing at 1,079 meters - will also likely see snow.

Between Tuesday and Thursday morning, the encroaching cold front will envelop the entire island, driving temperatures down to their lowest with some plains regions potentially dipping below 5 degrees.

According to the weather forecast, areas north of the central region and the eastern half will experience local rain on Tuesday. The eastern section will see showers on Wednesday. Residents are being urged to wrap up warm to guard against the cold.

Starting Thursday through to the following Sunday (Jan. 28), the cold wave is expected to weaken gradually, with island-wide temperatures predicted to rise daily. While Greater Taipei will largely remain cloudy, areas south of Taoyuan will see clear and stable weather. Brief local showers may appear in the eastern half.
