Lai responded with his strategy of the "Four Pillars for Peace and Prosperity," which includes continuing the sound foreign affairs, defense, and cross-strait policies of President Tsai Ing-wen. He also reiterated Taiwan's sovereign status, dismissing the need for a formal declaration of independence.
