TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Christmas is increasingly becoming a time to celebrate with furry family members. Family Dog, a canine school and care home, hosted a festive feast for over 20 dogs and their owners on Thursday (Dec. 21).
First-time attendees, like Venus Chen, mother of 5-month-old Bingo, expressed delight in the special celebration for their pets. Similarly, Victoria Chen enjoyed the event with her dachshund, Miller, introduced to her by a friend.
In Taiwan, pet spending has surged, with registered pets outnumbering newborn babies. Yang Fun-shi, owner of Family Dog, created a welcoming space for dog lovers, driven by her own experiences traveling with pets.
Over the past 15 years, she has organized various dog-friendly events, including Christmas and pool parties. This year's Christmas event, after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic, featured meals for dogs and humans, with a culinary expert preparing dishes like faux sushi and roast chicken.
Yang emphasizes the importance of nutritious meals for dogs, sharing her shift to homemade dog food, primarily ostrich meat, for its health benefits. The event also supported animal shelters, with attendees signing "promise trees" for a donation, embodying the spirit of Christmas and hope for the new year.
