TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The National Defense University confirmed on Wednesday (Dec. 20) the expulsion of a student officer named Tao, following an investigation into cheating allegations during exams.

The scandal emerged after media reports accused the National Defense University's College of Management Language Center, Taiwan's sole unit for military foreign language training, of turning a blind eye to exam cheating.

Whistleblowers were allegedly reprimanded for "lack of class unity" instead of the perpetrators. In response to the initial media reports, the university announced a renewed probe on Dec. 18, vowing severe penalties if the allegations were verified.

Following the investigation, university spokesperson Yu Hsi-ming announced during a Wednesday press conference the decision to dismiss Tao for his involvement in the cheating case. Yu also pledged to reinforce the moral education of the cadets to instill proper values.

This move addresses concerns about the handling of academic dishonesty and pressures to uphold integrity within the military education institution.
