TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's basketball scene is abuzz as the Taiwan Beer Leopards are reportedly seeking to sign former NBA star center DeMarcus "Boogie" Cousins.
Taiwan Beer Leopards CEO Johnny Chang commented, "Since joining forces with Taiwan Beer, our team has stabilized. Now, we're focusing on bolstering our center position."
Cousins, 33, a towering figure at over 200 centimeters, has an impressive track record, averaging more than 25 points per game from 2013 to 2017 and earning four All-Star selections.
The Leopards are allegedly offering Cousins a monthly salary of NT$6.25 million for playing just half a month.
Chang also mentioned ongoing discussions with another center, Hassan Whiteside, noting, "We're considering both players and are in talks with more than just these two."
This development follows the signing and subsequent departure of Dwight Howard, another former NBA center, who left Taiwan's league in 2023 amid salary disputes and missed games.
Cousins' potential addition to the Taoyuan Leopards could significantly enhance the team's capabilities and demonstrate the league's ambition to attract global talent.
