Taiwan MOE to review special ed teacher pay amid exodus (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Education (MOE) has announced plans to review and potentially increase their allowances amid a significant decline in the number of special education teachers in Taiwan.
According to reports, special education teachers have been leaving the profession due to increased administrative tasks and stagnant wages. The special allowance for these teachers has remained at NT$1,800 for 32 years.
Chin Tsai-chen, secretary-general of the Taiwan Special Education Professional Personnel Association, expressed concerns about the heavy workload and lack of financial incentives for special education teachers.
To address this, a proposal to raise the special education allowance to NT$5,520 has been made. The MOE is working on adjusting the compensation scheme and considering full extra-duty pay for administrative supervisors with reduced teaching hours.
The aim is to ensure fair treatment and improve the quality of special education services in Taiwan.
