TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The New Taipei City Fire Department on Monday (Dec. 4) rescued an Austrian woman who got lost in Wulai District's Badaoer Mountain.
Marion B., a student in her twenties based in South Korea who is currently visiting Taiwan, ventured out alone on Sunday and lost her way during the descent.
As her cellphone battery dwindled to 5%, she reached out to a friend in Germany for assistance. Her friend subsequently alerted the hotel staff in Wulai, who reported her missing.
The 25-member rescue team initiated a search at around 6 p.m. Sunday, according to the fire department. Despite working overnight, they couldn't locate Marion until 9 a.m. the next day.
Found unharmed, Marion was then escorted back to her hotel for rest. Chen Chih-wei, captain of the 4th Emergency and Rescue Corps, advised hikers to travel in groups and be equipped with food, cold weather gear, and lighting.
