MOI confirms all election candidates meet nationality rules (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Spokesperson Lin Kun-feng of the Ministry of the Interior (MOI) confirmed Monday (Dec. 4) that all six candidates from the three presidential and vice-presidential teams meet the nationality requirements for the upcoming elections.
Lin's statement has been submitted to the Central Election Commission (CEC) in response to the controversies regarding the nationality of certain candidates.
The CEC is scheduled to review the qualifications of the six presidential and vice-presidential candidates tomorrow.
The CEC's deliberations are crucial as the race heats up, especially amidst the citizenship disputes involving the vice-presidential candidates of both the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Hsiao Bi-khim, and the Taiwan People's Party (TPP), Cynthia Wu.
After the review process is completed, the CEC will announce the results to the public. This step is critical to ensuring the integrity of the electoral process and maintaining public confidence ahead of the elections.
The nationality issue had cast a shadow over the legitimacy of some candidates' eligibility, sparking heated discussions in political circles and among voters.
The forthcoming announcement by the CEC is highly anticipated as it will clear the air on these matters, setting the stage for the candidates to proceed with their campaigns unfettered by legal challenges regarding their qualifications.
